I choose the television series “Friday Night Lights”. “Friday Night Lights” is an NBC program that ran from 2006-2011. The series is based on a high school football team in a small town called Dillon, Texas where football is everything. Throughout the show we watch teenagers and adults go through various struggles like life altering injuries, jail sentences, and addiction. For some of these characters religion plays an important role in their development.

About: This section includes a description of the show itself and a brief overview of each season.

Cast: This section contains a brief description of each main character, the struggles they go through and the role they play.

Religion and Sport: This section will discuss how sports and religion can go hand-in-hand. Since the beginning of sports, religion has always played an important role. This section will focus mainly on football and religion since that is what “Friday Night Lights” focuses on. In this small town of Dillon, Texas religion is always present when playing football whether it is using prayer to get the game winning touchdown or using prayer to send love to an injured player.

Religion a sport? : This section is an extension off of religion and sport. It discusses how sports and the fans that watch have similar characteristics to religious traditions. For example, going to the Friday night football game to some people is like going to church on Sundays.

Born-Again Christians: this section will talk about born-again Christians. Every born-again Christian has a different opinion, experience and meaning of what "born-again" means. This will be shown through one character, Lyla Garrity, and also other born-again Christians.

Religion and Abortion: this section will discuss how religion can play a role in making a choice about your pregnancy. I will be discussing Christian views on abortion and teenage pregnancy and also how two pregnancies, Becky and Erin, are played out in the series.

Videos: this will contain videos that help represent the show and also show some of the religious themes I described in the previous sections.

Through the above themes and my research I plan on showing how religion is an important factor in “Friday Night Lights”. I will show that religion is important in the lives of both adults and teenagers in the small fictional town of Dillon, Texas, and how through this show it can also reflect our own lives.
